Functional Movement Screening

The functional movement screen (FMS) is a set of seven movement tests (squatting, lunging, etc…) that evaluates coordination and strength. Each movement isolates a different area of the body to prevent you from functional-movement-screeningcompensating and hiding weaknesses. The individual performs these movements and is assigned a numeric grade. Scores that rank below 14 indicate potential faulty movement patterns. This scoare is used to track progress and identify exercises that will be most effective in assisting with pain relief and healthy function. Unhealthy movement on a consistent basis (wear-and-tear) can lead to pain and inflammation in the body. The functional movement screen is a natural and holistic way of stacking the movement cards in your favor!!!

FMS is a detection system used to uncover potential movement problems that could be contributing to your ailments. So, if you have been suffering from pain which remains elusive this screening procedure might provide some useful information as to WHY??

  • Decreases the potential for injury
  • Improves balance, mobility and stability
  • Corrects in-efficiency of movement

Although highly beneficial for those looking to compete at the highest levels, FMS is also designed as a tool to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the non-athlete looking for pain relief.

In order to diagnose the root cause(s) of your symptoms and create a personalized treatment plan, I will first gather and analyze important information about your lifestyle, medical history, general health and the like.

Next, I will conduct a thorough examination and review any/all paperwork and documentation that has been provided (e.g. X-rays, MRIs, etc.) by you or other health care providers. The functional movement screen will be in addition to the standard examination.

Depending on the severity and complexity of your complaint you may need to provide further information before your first treatment. If this is not the case, a treatment plan will be explained and care will begin on the very first visit.
